For many years, I refused to use a pick. Not because of the sound but because I learned to play with no pick and thought it would be too hard and too much like re-learning everything. Recently I decided I have to learn for two main reasons - tonal reasons for certain songs/sounds and technique reasons for things I couldn't come up with a great way to do with just fingers. I read a bit online and decided to go with a dunlop big stubby 2.0mm. It was very hard at first but I progressed much faster than I thought once I committed to it.

I'm still working on being proficient at both picking and my "own brand" of finger style but I'm very glad I took the plunge and now can do both!
